Florida Historical Marker Council Member Information
The purpose of the State Historical Marker Council is to provide assistance, advice, and recommendations to the Division of Historical Resources by evaluating proposals for official Florida Historical Markers and identifying goals for the State Historical Marker Program. Dr. Jamin Wells
Pensacola, Florida

Dr. Jamin Wells is an Associate Professor of History and the Director of the Public History Graduate Program at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, specializing in nineteenth-century American cultural and environmental history. His current research and public history projects focus on the intersection of history, memory, and community identity in the American South.
Mercedes Harrold
Jacksonville, Florida
Term: April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027
Mercedes Harrold is a senior archaeologist for Stantec in Jacksonville, Florida. She earned her master's degree in Historical Archaeology/Anthropology from the University of West Florida with a focus in underwater archaeology. She has extensive experience in local, state, and federal compliance projects across the southeastern United States, from both the public and private sector perspectives.
Dr. Diane E. Silvia
Key West, Florida
Term: April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027
Dr. Diane E. Silvia is the Executive Director of the Historic Florida Keys Foundation. She earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Tulane University and is a licensed Building Inspector and Building Plans Examiner. Dr. Silvia has previously worked with the Key West Association of Realtors, the Monroe County Historic Preservation Commission, and the Building Officials Association of Florida.
